Generally, many think that to become an entrepreneur requires capital (money) and its success depends on how strong the capital is. Of course this is not entirely true.
There are many myths about businessmen, which, of course, are not entirely true. Here are some of them:
1. Become an Entrepreneur Must Be Successful and Rich.
There is no guarantee at all that so the entrepreneur will definitely be successful. Moreover, it must be rich.
The evidence is that 80-90% of the effort collapses in the first year, while the other 50% will collapse in the second to fifth years. The rest also only lasted 50% of it until the 10th year.
It’s a bit horrible this statistic. But that’s the reality. Anyone who can keep their business after the 10th year means that it has been tested enough. And it is certain that during the first 10 years of the business, there were many ups and downs that drained energy and tears.
Even after running for more than 10 years, there is no guarantee that the company can definitely be safe from bankruptcy. Although the percentage of success has been getting bigger, the fact is that there are not many (less than 50%) businesses that can last more than 20 years, for various reasons.
2. Free to Set Time
This is also a myth that is not necessarily true. Not necessarily by becoming entrepreneurs our time will be looser. It is precisely because of the difficulty of maintaining a business in the first years that it may be that a lot of time for an entrepreneur will be spent taking care of his business instead of taking care of his family. And this is what often becomes a source of conflict in the family of businessmen.
Often being an entrepreneur means that we need to be ready to work 24 hours (minus a few hours to sleep moderately), there is almost no time off. When there is free time, it should be used for studying, or networking. Without such a commitment, it could be that his business cannot grow or even cannot survive.
Of course, this matter of time is also a matter of life priorities. For example, I, from the beginning, I was not a workaholic, so I wanted to work in moderation. The rest I spend a lot on for my family and others. But there are some of my friends who have been working for a long time, yes, it doesn’t make a difference, whether he is rich or not, his business is still pioneering or has grown up, even there is no difference either, so it is an entrepreneur or not.
3. Nobler.
The hand above is more noble than the hand below. That’s right. By becoming entrepreneurs, we will be able to create jobs and be able to help others because of the excess money we have.
The condition is one: The effort must be successful. If it goes bankrupt, don’t even make it difficult for many people. But real businessmen will definitely not give up easily, even if they suffer losses or be deceived by people many times. As Bob Sadino said, it’s not a businessman if you haven’t lost and been deceived by people.
Actually to be the hand above, it does not have to be an entrepreneur. Basically, any profession is just as noble if we intend to worship and make the best contribution we can make, according to the talents and interests we have.
4. Don’t Have to Have Competence
The important thing is spirit. And reckless. This is also misguided. Some people become entrepreneurs in fields that are just trending or just looking at their financial benefits, without thinking about their talents and interests in the business field.
All successful entrepreneurs must be very eager to learn and develop competencies in the field he is engaged in. And always ready to go into the field. A true entrepreneur is a true learner.
Of course he will hire people who fit his field. At the right time. But he himself never stopped learning and developing himself. Usually he will be very excited in the field of business because he has a special interest and / or talent in that field.
There are many other myths about entrepreneurs. In essence, becoming an entrepreneur is not an easy road. But many people are challenged to become entrepreneurs, not because they think that being an entrepreneur is easy and delicious, but more because of the call of the heart (passion). It is because of this call of the heart that will determine we will endure in the face of the severity of the ordeal, or give up halfway.
There are also people who become entrepreneurs not because of intentionality, but because of a pickpocket, whether it’s because they were fired from their workplace, almost work can’t get it, as long as it’s just a side job to increase income and others.
